Unwanted Facial or Body Hair

Unwanted facial or body hair constitutes of terminal hairs present in excess or in undesired areas of the body. These hairs can be thick or fine depending on the patient’s genetic predisposition, skin condition, medical history, and hair type. DIY hair removal solutions (shaving, tweezing) make it hard to combat unwanted body hair. It can be difficult to remove, unappealing, and lead to a lack of confidence.

Causes of Unwanted Body Hair

Body hair is often a biological occurrence and may present itself in abundance post-puberty. This hair may appear on the face, arms, legs, pubic area, buttocks, and more. In this case, a patient will know the cause of their hair is associated with genetics. For an in-depth assessment, patients are asked to speak with a specialist after booking their consultation.

Causes include:

  • Genetic Predisposition
  • Tumor
  • Metabolic Condition(s)
  • Cushing Syndrome
  • Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia
  • Medication-Based Side Effects
  • Hormonal Changes

For patients using medications such as testosterone, anabolic steroids, minoxidil, glucocorticoids, and phenytoin, please consult with a medical professional for an in-depth diagnosis.  If necessary, patients are welcome to consult with one of the clinic’s specialists to determine the cause of their unwanted hair.

Treatment

Based on the client’s hair removal requirements, the specialist will examine the hair, skin type, and medical history before establishing a plan of action. The goal is to remove hair seamlessly and safely. All specialists at the clinic are trained, certified, and approved by Health Canada.

The clinic will offer a range of treatments including waxing, laser hair removal, and electrolysis. The selected procedure will include a customized plan, in-depth examination, and use of state-of-the art technology.

Before removing the unwanted hair, a specialist will go over the patient’s hair removal needs. The target area(s) will be highlighted, analyzed, and planned for before the first session. Depending on the chosen treatment, the number of sessions will be mentioned during the consultation.

For waxing procedures, the hair removal session will vary based on the number of target area(s). All waxing sessions include the use of a trained ointment, high-grade wax, and soft strips to maximize results. These results last for at least 4-6 weeks depending on the patient’s hair type, hair growth pattern, and hair growth speed. The patient can book additional sessions to re-wax the area(s).

For laser hair removal procedures, the patient’s hair type, skin condition(s), medical history, and goals will be assessed beforehand. This will include the use of modern technology to examine all target area(s). This technology is safe and certified for all hair removal processes.

Please note, the patient’s skin tone, skin type, and hair type will have an affect on the laser hair removal procedure and its results. This information is offered before the consultation and procedure.

Recovery

After the removal of some or all unwanted hairs, the specialist will include a robust recovery plan. In general, the procedure does not require additional downtime. Patients can return to their daily routine without missing a beat.

For any or all post-procedure side effects, the specialist will examine the skin after the conclusion of your session. This will help discover potential redness, swelling, bruising, or general discomfort. If present, the side effects will last no more than an hour.
